brick veneer

Thin brick veneer installation in Toronto

Thin brick veneer is exactly what it sounds like — real brick, cut thin. Each piece is typically under an inch thick, light enough to apply directly to a wall without additional structural support. You get the look and texture of a full brick wall at a fraction of the weight and cost.

It works on interior and exterior surfaces. Accent walls in living rooms and kitchens, fireplace surrounds, commercial storefronts, full exterior cladding. Because the pieces are real clay brick, not a synthetic imitation, the colour and texture hold up over time the way real brick always has.

What we offer

We install thin brick veneer on residential and commercial projects across the GTA. New construction and renovations. Our crew handles surface prep, layout, adhesive application, grouting, and cleanup. We also help with material selection — there are more options than most people expect, from standard red to antique finishes to modern grey tones.

If your project involves other masonry work — brick restoration, chimney repair, stone cladding — we coordinate everything so you deal with one contractor, not three.

Where thin brick veneer works

The material is versatile enough for a long list of applications:

  • Interior accent walls — living rooms, basements, kitchens, entryways
  • Fireplace surrounds and hearth areas
  • Kitchen and bathroom backsplashes
  • Exterior facades — full coverage or accent sections around entries
  • Commercial spaces — restaurant interiors, retail storefronts, office lobbies
  • Renovation projects where weight matters and full brick is too heavy for the existing structure

It goes over drywall, concrete, plywood, and existing brick. The substrate needs to be sound — we assess the wall condition before starting and address any issues.

Thin brick vs. full brick vs. faux brick

Full brick is thicker, heavier, and requires a structural ledge or foundation support. It is the real thing, but not every wall can handle it. Thin brick veneer gives you the same material — real fired clay — in a lighter format that goes on faster.

Faux brick is manufactured from concrete or polyurethane. It is lighter still and cheaper, but it does not age or wear like real brick. Up close, the difference is visible. If authenticity matters to you, thin brick veneer is the way to go.

How we install it

We inspect and prep the surface first. For drywall or plywood, that means applying a scratch coat or adhesive-rated backer. For concrete or existing masonry, we clean and prime the surface.

Layout comes next. We dry-fit a section to plan the pattern, joint spacing, and colour mix. This prevents clustering — all the dark bricks ending up in one spot, all the light ones in another.

Each piece is back-buttered with adhesive and pressed into place. We work row by row, bottom to top, using spacers for consistent joints. Once the adhesive sets, joints are grouted and tooled. The finished surface gets cleaned and inspected.

Most residential accent wall projects take two to four days. A full exterior can take one to two weeks depending on the area.

Colour and texture options

Thin brick comes in more styles than you might think. Standard red and brown for traditional looks. White, cream, and grey for modern interiors. Antique and tumbled finishes that look like reclaimed brick from a century-old building. Smooth faces, rough textures, wire-cut surfaces.

We bring samples to the consultation so you can see and feel the options against your existing walls, floors, and furniture. Colour looks different in your space than it does in a showroom.

Clay brick vs. cultured brick

Clay brick veneer is made from natural clay, fired in a kiln. It weathers naturally, the colour does not fade, and it has the same thermal and moisture properties as full-size brick. It is heavier than cultured alternatives but looks and feels authentic.

Cultured brick is an engineered product — concrete-based, moulded to look like brick. It is lighter and usually cheaper. Quality varies. Some high-end cultured products are hard to tell apart from real clay. Budget products tend to look flat after a few years of weather exposure.

We install both and can show you samples side by side so you can decide what works for your project.

Antique and reclaimed looks

Antique brick veneer is popular with homeowners going for a rustic or industrial look. The bricks have irregular edges, uneven colour, and surface imperfections that give them character. Some are actual reclaimed brick cut thin. Others are new brick manufactured to look aged.

We have access to several Ontario-based suppliers that carry authentic reclaimed and antique-style brick. If you are trying to match existing brickwork on an older home, we source and test samples before committing to a full order.

Manufactured and specialty options

Beyond standard clay and cultured products, we also work with specialty veneer materials — lightweight concrete panels, polyurethane faux brick for interior-only applications, and pre-assembled panel systems that speed up installation on large commercial projects.

Each material has trade-offs in cost, weight, durability, and appearance. We walk you through the options based on where the veneer is going and what kind of use it will see.

Working with your design

Brick veneer can go in a lot of directions depending on the bond pattern, grout colour, and joint width. A running bond with tight grey joints looks modern. A stacked bond with wide white joints reads more traditional. Herringbone patterns work well on smaller feature areas.

We work with homeowners, architects, and interior designers to get the details right. If you are not sure what you want, we bring references from past projects and samples to help you narrow it down.

Areas we serve

We install thin brick veneer across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area, including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, and Markham. Commercial and residential.
